Nitrous Oxide (“Laughing Gas”)

Nitrous oxide is commonly known as laughing gas, and is a form of Sleep Dentistry used to help anxious patients during their dental appointments. Depending on the level of anxiety, it can be used for anything from a straight-forward teeth cleaning through to complicated oral surgery procedures.

If the thought of visiting the dentist makes you nervous or stressed, or you delay dental treatments because you dread the mere idea of the drill, then nitrous oxide or our other Sleep Dentistry options could be the solution for you.

What Is Nitrous Oxide?

With nitrous oxide sedation, patients have a mask placed over their nose and breathe in a combination of nitrous oxide and oxygen. It works quickly to calm and relax you. It is a great option for people who are scared of needles. Most patients remain awake throughout their appointment, but can feel drowsy and tend to have little memory of the treatment. Nitrous oxide usually wears off quickly.

Is Nitrous Oxide Safe?

Laughing gas has been used effectively by dentists for many decades. Our Fraser Dental dentists are highly experienced and trained in administering the gas safely, keeping patient wellbeing paramount. The team closely monitor you and control the amount of gas carefully throughout your treatment.
